  • Thursday 21 November: Parallel expert workshops
  • Friday 22 November, morning: Plenary session on key themes for risk governance

The Rebound Effect: Implications of Consumer Behaviour for Robust Energy Policies
A review of the literature on the rebound effect in energy efficiency and report from expert workshops

The collaborative peer-reviewed research report, written by a research team led by Prof. Inês Azevedo at Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for Climate and Energy Decision Making and the Research Unit on Risk Governance and Sustainable Technology Development at Stuttgart University aims at raising awareness among scientists, industry experts and policy makers about the extent of the rebound effect and suggests areas where research is needed to better inform science-based energy policies.

]]> Following a multi-stakeholder expert workshop held on 5-6 November 2012 at the Swiss Re Centre for Global Dialogue in Zurich, IRGC is preparing risk governance guidelines for unconventional gas development. These guidelines will be complementary to other initiatives in this field and include recommendations about:

- technical risk identification, assessment and management

- the need to work with others to collect and share data and experience

- addressing issues of safety, sustainability and reponsibility

- the need to get political and societal legitimacy for successfull development

- engagement of local communities and other stakeholders
