Short biography
Luis Abdón Cifuentes is a civil engineer at the Catholic University of Chile. He has a Masters in Civil Engineering and hold a Ph.D in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University, USA.
Cifuentes is a professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Systems. Before, he was an associate professor and associate researcher at the Department of Engineering and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University. His teaching includes courses on Environmental Management, Risk Analysis, Environmental Economics and Project Evaluation. He supervised numerous Masters and Doctoral Theses in these areas, as well as in Impact of Air Pollution and Risk Perception.
He was also a consultant for the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, for the Clean Air Initiative for Latin American Cities, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank. Cifuentes was a lead author for the third and fourth IPCC report and a active contributor to the US EPA’s  Integrated Environmental Strategies. He authored studies for CONAMA, CNE, SECTRA and various private sector companies. He is a member of the Society for Risk Analysis, the Air and Waste Management Association, and the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology, among others.
