Xue Lan

Prof. Xue Lan is Dean of the School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University, P.R. China. He is also Adjunct Professor at Carnegie Mellon University and a Fellow of IC2 Institute at University of Texas, Austin. His teaching and research interests include public policy analysis and management, science and technology policy, and crisis management. He has published widely in these areas and is on the editorial board or advisory board of several international academic journals.

He currently serves as a member of the Expert Committee on Emergency Management of the State Council of China, Vice President of China Association of Public Administration, Vice President of Chinese Association of Science of Science and S&T Policy, and Vice Chairman of the National Steering Committee for MPA Education. He is also a member of the Visiting Committee for Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, the International Advisory Board of UNU-MERIT, the Governing Board of International Development Research Center (IDRC), the International Advisory Board of APEC Technology Foresight Center, and Vice Chair of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Catastrophic Risk.

Trained as an engineer, Prof. Xue has two master degrees in Technological Systems Management and Public Administration from State University of New York at Stony Brook. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University and taught as an Assistant Professor of Engineering Administration and International Affairs at the George Washington University before retuning back to China in 1996. He is a recipient of National Distinguished Young Scientist Award of China and the 2009 Cheung Kong Chaired Professorship.
