Fabiana Arzuaga

Dr Fabiana Arzuaga is Professor of Regulation of Biotechnology and Patent Law at the University of Buenos Aires and Professor of Patent Law at Flacso (Latin American University of Social Sciences). She is also Chair of the Advisory Commission on Regenerative Medicine and Cellular Therapies at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovative Production of Argentina.

Additionally, Fabiana has been advisor to the Science and Technology Commission (formed by the Chamber of Deputies of the Argentinean Parliament) during the last five years and advisor to the REDBIO Foundation on Intellectual Property Issues (formed by Redbio/FAO).

She combines her academic activities with her work as intellectual property and patent lawyer, having a particular specialty and experience in international trade law and in intellectual property rights and regulations associated with biotechnology. She works for a multinational seeds and biotechnological company and is in charge of the global intellectual property and regulatory issues.

Fabiana is currently undertaking ambitious research on the regulation of stem cells research in Argentina and Latin America combining her role as associate professor to the AHRC Centre for Intellectual Property and Technology Law – School of Law – University of Edinburgh and as Chairman of the Advisory Stem Cell Commission (formed by the new Science and Technology Ministry of Argentina) aimed to create a regulatory framework for regenerative medicine and cellular therapies in Argentina.
